History

Initially set up by Phil Weaver of epic-cycles.co.uk back in 2005 the Autumn Epic soon gained a reputation of one of the best sportives in the county. It set the standard for sportives and was twice voted top sportive by Cyclosport readers, it was also one of the first to have electronic timing and online entry.

Over the years there has been plenty of media interest and articles in The Guardian and Cycling Plus, it even gets a mention in William Fotheringham's "Cyclopedia". Have you got a story of your own Autumn Epic experience? We'd love to hear it.

Clubs have always identified it as a key event for them - 450 clubs have sent teams over the years (there's been over 3,500 participants) - some of the most enthusiastic are Wolverhampton Wheelers, St Ives CC, Mid-Shropshire Wheelers, Ludlow CC and Hereford Wheelers plus sizeable contingents from London and a few from even further afield - Edinburgh, Italy and New York...
